Highway 74 closed
Highway 74 is closed from Mountain Center to Hemet until further notice due to a large piece of the highway washing away near the Cottonwood burn area. According to California Highway Patrol (CHP) Officer Mike Murawski, the incident occurred around 1:40 p.m. Saturday afternoon.
Alternate routes are Highway 243 to Banning and Highway 371 through Anza.

Since 243 has had lanes closed off and on, due to falling rock, will TC please keep us up to date on any closures there?
ReplyDeleteMy wife and I were in Hemet most of yesterday afternoon. We learned of the road closure and came back to Idyllwild via Banning and hwy 243.
ReplyDeleteWith heavy snow falling, cars stopping and slowing to 10 to 15 mph, I was worried about a washout or rock falling for the entire 75 minute drive from Banning.
If we learn of any problems on the northern route, we'll post immediately.
thanks for asking and checking here.
I have heard of no blockages between Anza and Hemet. There are a few places on Wilson Valley Road and Sage Road where mud flows across the driving surface. They'll be dry or almost but there will be dirt on the road, so be careful.
ReplyDeleteYeah this was already very dangerous condition and after some more damage Cottonwood burn area road 74 just wash away.
ReplyDeleteAnza and Hemet road are ok and they were operational as well.
