Forest Service Road closures and weather update

Just received notice that the Forest Service has closed several roads within the San Jacinto Ranger District. Here is the notice:


The San Jacinto Ranger District has closed Forest Service Roads on the North-West section of the Forest, due to predicted snow and rain over the coming week. These closures are for public safety because of the chance of ice, mud, rock slides, washouts, flash flooding, slippery road surfaces and/or snow. The Forest Service has closed the following roads: 4S05 (Mellor Ranch Rd), 4S06, 4S10, 4S19 (Angelus Hill Rd), 4S21 (Indian Truck Trail), 5S06 (Control Rd), 5S07 (Bee Canyon), 5S09 (San Jac Truck Trail) and 5S10 (Red Hill Truck Trail) all part of the Cottonwood and Esperanza burn areas. As well as 7S02 (Santa Rosa Mtn). For further updates follow-up with this website.


Through 2:20 p.m., Keenwild has recorded .29 inches of rain, but it is currently coming down harder than anytime else today.

while areas of dense fog continue through 3 pm this afternoon.
There is a slight chance of thunderstorms. rainfall through 3pm is expected
to range between one-quarter and three-quarters of an inch.
The snow level will be above 7500 feet. local south winds will increase to 20 to 40 mph
...with gusts over 50 mph on the ridges.


Rain will become heavier this afternoon with late in the day.
The combination of strong winds...heavy rain...and locally dense fog
will make travel difficult at times.
